Legret et Fils

Working with organic processes, Alain Legret produces a simple style of wine with good focus and some opulence.

His Equilibre (1/3 blend of each) sits at the simple end. A touch of smoke with peach and a confected palate of strawberries and cream. The Mineral (100% Chardonnay from Sezanne and Barbonne) shows reasonable minerality, with bitter grape fruit notes and a seductive oak note even though it hasn’t seen any! The Grande Reserve showed much more opulence with chewy red fruit notes. The vintage 2000 shows some age and an intense richness with hints of raisin that I found slightly disturbing. I would be interested to try a vintage with a touch more acidity like 2002.
