Alexandre Le Brun

Alexandre Lebrun is a 9th generation winemaker from Monthelon, a village sitting west of Cuis in the Cote des Blancs. The family has graced the village from as far back as 1750 and their vaulted cellar dates from 1822.
Tradition is a 1/3 blend of Chardonnay/Pinot Noir/Meunier, with 8g/ltr. A juicy nose is followed with a crisp Chardonnay focused palate with great mineral drive. An enjoyable experience!
Passion, a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir/Chardonnay, shows a rather disturbing level of oxidation for my palate. A touch spirity it didn’t quite hold itself together enough.
Cuvee Fascination is a pure vintage wine from the great vineyard Mont Aigu in Chouilly. Produced in very limited numbers (<4000 bottles), it is 100% Chardonnay and a surprisingly jammy, buttery wonder. It doesn't quite have enough precision on the palate, especially for this village, but the tension impressed me in the 2009 en mag. I await the opportunity to taste a few more vintages with some bottle age. Revelation is a surprising side step to Meunier. 100% Meunier from Monthelon. It shows good weight on the palate but cries for some meat to it's bones. I spoke at length with Alexandre about this and I am informed that he will be introducing some oak into the fermentation. That'll do it! Cuvee Dilection is an oak vinified (85%) Rose produced only in vintage years, Extra Brut or Brut Nature. 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir/Meunier and 15% red wine addition. It is an extremely elegant wine with a surprising amount of fruit. A good producer from Monthelon whose holdings in Chouilly lift it's production up. Not quite enough precision for my palate but enjoyable.
