Andre Robert
Run by the wonderful Bertrand Robert, half winemaker, half mad scientist and his delightful daughter Claire. This maison produce a fantastic expression of the terroir. It is very rare that I find a producers non vintage wine so delectable that I almost don’t bother looking at their other cuvees but this producer is one of them! His Grand Cru Reserve is simply superb. Layers of green apple, pastry and dark smokey undertones. It is a lesson in oak balance. I have tried Andre Robert’s vintage wines on a number of occasions and have always struggled a touch with them as for me they do not show a consistent linear form. That said they are always fascinating to try but I never know where they are going! I am going to have great fun exploring them over the next few years as they open up their vinoteque.
