Andre Roger
Lovely small producer in Ay playing with 4.6 hectares of Pinot Noir in Ay with a smidge of Chardonnay (0.9 hectares) in Mareuil sur Ay.
Jean-Pierre Roger works his magic with some wonderful lieu dit, La Tartellette, Pierre Robert du Haut and Varmery producing a fruity, playful wine with lovely crisp mineral notes. He works with a very small amount of oak giving his wines a lovely fruity weight with a touch of salinity and an impressive level of tension.
Their prestige cuvee, Vieilles Vignes, made from 40 year old vines in the aforementioned lieu dits is a powerfully different wine. Blackcurrant, redcurrant and sherbert with a luscious palate and saline backbone it is a impressive, serious wine that needs time in a large glass to unfold.
