Francois Seconde
This producer jumped out at me at a tasting in London for two reasons. Firstly, I believe it possesses one of the worst labels I have ever seen on it’s Cuvee Clavier, but secondly, and more importantly, his wines show just how good this little known Grand cru village is.
Working with 5.5 hectares mainly in Sillery, Francois produces wines with superb weight and texture if a little heavy on the sugar for my palate. The fruit is so expressive of this particular area in the Montagne de Reims with it’s dark blackberry notes and beautiful chalky, saline grip.
