La Villeseniere
One producer creating two completely different styles of wine. Claude Michez, no oak and La Villeserviere, only oak!
The pure oak wines are always from a single year and in so are very focused and precise. This is no better displayed in their 100% chardonnay wine, Les Cuteries, with it’s lovely vanilla, sweet fruit and saline notes.
The triumph of this line up of wines though is the Rose de Saignee. 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay, a first for me in that the grapes are pressed and macerated by foot! The colour a superb ruby red with orange tinge, the palate wonderfully balanced with a serious red wine note on the mid to late palate. A masterful use of traditional methods, in foot pressing and oak, to create a truly unique wine.
