Thomas Perseval
I was extremely excited to meet Thomas after tasting his wines at a trade tasting as I was fascinated by their structure and weight. I had heard great things and these wines were good.
Having broken away from his parents production, Perseval-Harteel in 2009, Thomas pushed for Organic certification, which he gained in 2012 and with this the production of his first cuvee.
With 2.5 hectares in Chamery, Thomas produces 3 different vintage single parcels; La Pocelle, La Masure, Le Village. Each parcel has a unique exposition and has been planted appropriately. He also produces a Brut Tradition and Rose.
La Pocelle, sitting at the base of the village with it’s deep, sandy soil and facing all directions is planted with Pinot Noir and Meunier.
La Masure, placed in the middle of the village in chalk, clay and a touch of sand, north east facing and planted in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Le Village, north facing, positioned again in the middle of the village it lies in chalk and clay, and grows Chardonnay.
Each plot is vinified separately and bottles are disgorged by hand. Barrel samples were tasted April 2015 and showed great potential. I await…
In late 2015 he released his Grande Cuvee, a 1/3 each blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, with no dosage. It is pure 2012 and shows a wonderfully structured palate. Saline, dry and a real powerhouse. It is the wine I was expecting from his production and gives you that excitement for what the future will bring from this wonderful producer.
