Sourdet-Diot Cuvee Elegance Brut

Pure Chardonnay vinified in oak. 3g/ltr. Hugely powerful burnt oak note. Dark candied fruits. Good length. A warmth coming on right at the end.

Sourdet-Diot Millesime Brut

Warm wine. Obvious drop in sugar and much more definition on the midpalate. Mousse is a little bit unbalanced. Much more attack on the mid to late palate. 20/70/10 Meunier/Chardonnay/Pinot noir. 8g/ltr.

Sourdet-Diot Cuvee Prestige Brut

2010 base. 40/60 Meunier/Chardonnay. 12g/ltr. More sophisticated on the nose than the Tradition and Reserve. Bold, powerful. Big acidity. Opulent fruit. Surprising sugar balance given the high level.

Sourdet-Diot Cuvee de Reserve Brut

80/20 Meunier/Chardonnay. 2010/11. 10g/ltr. More fruit on the palate than the Tradition. Sugar seems to show a touch more. Good acidity and a creamy end palate.

Sourdet-Diot Brut Tradition

10g/ltr. 70/30 meunier/chardonnay. Hot nose. Sweet jammy toast. Simple yet very good balance. Impressive.

Sourdet-Diot

Sitting high up in the hills off the Marne near La Chapelle Monthodon this second generation producer with 10 hectares of vines creates a surprisingly balanced and fruity style of wine. I was particularly impressed with the sugar/fruit/acidity balance in the Brut Tradition and Cuvee Prestige Brut which have 10 and 12 g/ltr respectively. They are a Meunier dominant house although as you scale through their cuvees their wines become more Chardonnay dominant with the Cuvee Elegance Brut being made exclusively from this and matured in oak. The maison is now run by Nadine and Patrick Sourdet’s daughter Ludivine and her husband Damien. I look forward to seeing how the wines and the winery evolve.
